Freshly laid turf in a fenced new-build garden

Turfing and new lawns

New lawns laid properly: old turf and weeds cleared, ground levelled and prepared, quality turf laid tight and rolled. Ideal for new-build gardens left in a state by the developers.

Complete lawn transformations

A new lawn is only as good as the ground under it. We do the preparation properly, so your turf roots quickly and stays level.

  • Clear old turf, weeds, stones and builders' rubble
  • Dig over or rotavate compacted ground
  • Level and add topsoil where needed
  • Rake and firm to an even finish
  • Lay quality turf in a staggered pattern with tight joins
  • Roll, edge and leave it ready to water

New-build gardens

Developers often leave gardens as compacted clay with a thin layer of soil and rubble on top, which is why new-build lawns struggle. We sort the ground first and lay a lawn that actually lasts, for homes and for commercial properties.

Decking and turf together

Many of our customers have a new deck and a new lawn done at the same time, so the two meet neatly and the whole garden is finished in one go. See our composite decking work.

Looking after new turf

  • Water daily in dry weather for the first two weeks, ideally early morning or evening.
  • Keep off it as much as possible for about two weeks while it roots.
  • First mow once it has rooted, usually after two to three weeks, on a high setting.

Decking replacement and turfing

Fantastic job done by Luke and Chris from Manchester Sovereign replacing our old decking for composite and some turfing. Open, honest and happy to suggest ideas for the project that might suit us without pushing anything on us. Communication throughout was excellent along with the quality of the work and materials.

Brilliant garden turfing

Very professional, turned up on time, cleaned up well afterwards. Did a large turfing job in my new build house. Developers left the garden in a terrible state and now it looks perfect, thank you. Reasonable price and looks brilliant, totally transformed my garden.

Turfing back garden

Despite the name, Luke quoted on a re-turfing job I had posted. Everything from the communication, taking time to talk through options, their timeliness, cleanliness and politeness was spot on. Turf looking great 1 week in. Would thoroughly recommend Luke and team.

Questions we get asked

When is the best time to lay turf?

Autumn and spring are ideal because the ground is moist and warm. Turf can be laid most of the year, but not when the ground is frozen or in a drought.

How soon can I walk on new turf?

Keep foot traffic to a minimum for around two weeks while the roots establish. After the first mow it can be used normally.

Can you remove my old lawn?

Yes. We strip the old turf and weeds, sort out the ground underneath and lay the new lawn on a proper base.

Do you do commercial turfing?

Yes, we lay turf for residential and commercial properties.
