Signs your deck needs attention

  • Boards that feel soft, spongy or bounce as you walk on them
  • Rot at board ends or around posts
  • Screws popping up, boards lifting or gaps opening
  • A wobbly handrail or loose steps
  • A surface that stays green and slippery
  • A deck that has started to lean, sag or has partly collapsed

Repair or replace?

It depends on the frame. If the joists and posts are sound, we can usually replace the failed boards, re-fix the rest and refinish it, at a fraction of the cost of a new deck. If the frame has rotted or was never built properly, new boards on top won't last, so we'll recommend stripping it back and rebuilding the structure. We'll show you what we find and explain why.

What we do

  • Replace rotten or broken boards, joists and posts
  • Repair composite decking, including sourcing matching boards
  • Re-fix loose boards, steps and handrails
  • Strip out and rebuild failed frames
  • Full replacement in composite or timber, including removal of the old deck
  • Clean, sand and re-stain or paint tired timber decks
  • Put right decks left unfinished or badly built by someone else

We find what's hiding underneath

Lifting an old deck often uncovers problems nobody knew about. On one job we found a leaking waste pipe under the old boards and replaced it before building the new deck. We'll always tell you what we find before carrying on.

Such a craftsman

Couldn't speak more highly of Luke, incredible work, such a craftsman, made a beautiful deck for us and did it in a really tight turnaround, as our old one collapsed and we were going away. Despite this, nothing was rushed, the deck is rock solid and looks great and he went above and beyond to accommodate extras, we even got him back to do our fence as well! Also might be in the running for the nicest tradesman/ human in the world, could recommend more.

Composite decking repair

I used Manchester Sovereign to repair my composite decking. Luke was extremely professional and reliable. He always responded quickly (even when away on holiday), the quality of his work was excellent, and his prices are very reasonable. I would certainly recommend Manchester Sovereign to anyone!

Full replacement of decking

Top Team and exceptional work! Luke came to me in a time of need following a bit of trouble with a previous tradesman. He listened to the issues we had and set in motion a plan to rectify it, materials where ordered the same day the deposit was paid and he was on hand to receive them and ensure everything was correct. Over the course of the next few days the old decking was removed, the new frame installed and the new decking laid – worked across a multiple weather conditions from boiling hot sun to the downpours. Thank you for all your work – much appreciated we love it.

Absolutely top job

Luke and Chris were brilliant. They replaced a huge area of decking for me. Not a simple job as it is on a slope. Luke discussed the job with me every step of the way. He kept me informed of deliveries and collections so I knew what to expect. They were polite and very friendly. Luke went over and above the agreed job, replacing a waste pipe that we discovered was leaking after the old decking was taken up. He was meticulous in his work, building a solid structure underneath and perfectly laid decking boards on top. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Sovereign. Absolutely top job from start to finish.

Decking replacement and turfing

Fantastic job done by Luke and Chris from Manchester Sovereign replacing our old decking for composite and some turfing. Open, honest and happy to suggest ideas for the project that might suit us without pushing anything on us. Communication throughout was excellent along with the quality of the work and materials.

Very knowledgeable and good quality work

Very knowledgable and helpful in working out the best solution to some work needed on my decking. Work carried out was very good quality. Would definitely recommend and would use again.

Questions we get asked

Can you repair composite decking?

Yes. We replace damaged composite boards, fix the frame underneath where needed and re-fix anything that has moved. Where the original board is still available we'll match it; if not, we'll talk through the closest option.

Should I repair or replace my deck?

If the frame is sound, repair is usually the sensible choice. If the joists or posts are rotten, replacement is better value because new boards on a failing frame won't last. We'll give you an honest view at the site visit.

Can you fix a deck someone else built?

Yes, and we're often called in to do exactly that. We'll assess what's there, keep what's sound and put right what isn't.

Can you restore an old timber deck?

Often, yes. A clean, sand and fresh stain or paint can transform a deck that is structurally sound, combined with replacing any boards that have gone.
